Abstract

Background – Based on observations and interviews, fifth grade students at Panaragan 1 Elementary School have not been able to solve mathematical story problems optimally. Purpose – purpose of this study is to determine the effect of problem based learning models or problem based learning models on the ability of students to solve mathematical story problems with learning material in building and flat in class 5 Panaragan State Elementary School 1, Bogor City. Design/methodology/approach – The approach used in this research is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. In addition, the study used a Non Equivalent Control Group Design research design with a sample of 73 students. There are several techniques used in this study, namely observation techniques, interview techniques, and tests. Findings – From the research results obtained by the average difference in value between the control class and the experimental class, the experimental class has an average value of 73.11 and the control class has an average value of 60.86. After calculating the t-test (One-Sample Test) on the post-test value of the experimental class the Sign value is known. 0.04, because 0.04 andlt;0.05 then Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected, which shows the influence of PBL models on the ability to solve students' mathematical story problems. Research limitations – 1. The learning material carried out in this study is limited to the material in flat shapes and in space. 2 The research time is limited because it adjusts the school schedule so researchers cannot directly determine the gap between giving pretest, learning activities, and giving a pottest. Originality/value – is an experimental research carried out on fifth grade students with learning material in the shape of a flat and built space by making some modifications in the application ofmodels problem based learning to better suit the characteristics of elementary school students.
