Abstract

ABSTRACT RAM SAMUEL. A. 1410730. The Potential of Endophytic Bacteria to Control Ralstonia solanacearum in Potato Plants of Medians Variety. Under immediate supervision of Setyono and Alina Akhdiya. Potato is a widely cultivated crop plant. A soilborne disease called bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is the most common limiting factor in potato production. This pathogen attacks xylem of the plants resulting in plants wilt and even death. This study was aimed to assess the potential of endophytic bacteria Micrococcus endophyticus (G053) and Bacillus sp. (S12) as biocontrol against bacterial wilt in potato plants. The experiments were conducted using completely randomized block design with 5 treatments. The treatments consisted of Re0 (control), Re1 (GO53), Re2 (S12), Re3 (GO53+S12), Re4 (K+Streptomisin sulphate). The results showed that application of G053, S12 and combinations of both bacteria significantly decreased bacterial wilt disease symptomp of the inoculated plants. The bacteria improved the defence system of host plants significantly. It was concluded that both of endophytic bacteria could be used as an alternative biocontrol agent against bacterial wilt disease.
